Africa is a huge continent with varied cultures and languages. There is a main difference between North Africa and the Sub Saharan Africa where the desert separates both the regions. The culture and the ethnicity of the tribes are also divided by this.
Some of the main branches of culture in Africa are Afro Asiatic, Niger Congo and Nilo Saharan tribes. The Negro culture is the most popular culture of Africa. Although different tribes have different cultures, this still remains one of the most popular ones. There are several small and individual tribes residing in Africa which follow their own customary traditions.
As far as languages go, you see several people talking in Swahili and Lingua Franca. The Bantu tribe is another popular and a fairly large tribe that converse in Swahili. In fact, there are hundreds of languages spoken in Africa. However, not all the dialects and the languages are taken seriously except for a few main ones. The languages spoken by the people have influences of Arabic, Swahili and Hausa. Other languages that are popular in Africa are English, Spanish, Malagay, French and the Bambara.
South Africa has been through colonization, so the country has adapted to English, Afrikaans and French as their native language. Even West Indies speak in English by large. Except for a few exceptions of East Africa, the others speak in adopted languages. The popular African tribal languages are slowly getting diluted due to Western influence, and English is becoming the language of choice increasingly.
