There are hundreds of tribes that shaped the continent. Most of them had their own language, customs and traditions.

You cannot compare the modern African culture with the ancient African culture simple because most of the ancient culture has dissipated. Africa has been exposed to several traditions ever since it was discovered. Also, surprisingly in Africa, you will find various religions like Christianity and Islam because people have adapted to invasions over a period of time. The colonialism in Africa has had a deep impact, and also wiped out several ancient traditions and practices. The tribal traditions that are considered invaluable today have disappeared to a great extent in Africa.
