African American Culture Definition

The African American culture is more predominant in the United States of America. The African American descent in the Unite States has a long history and is as old as the American tradition. The Africans were first brought into the country as slaves. However, today the African American culture has its own distinctive features, and is respected for that.

There is a huge influence of the American culture on the Africans and also there has been an influence of the African and American culture on the entire country. It is still an evolving trend.

Over a period of time, after racial discrimination subsided and the Africans were treated equally, the whole trend in the United States changed. The heavy influence of European culture started wearing down, and a new African American culture started evolving.

One of the biggest influences and proponent of the African American culture was music. The African American traditions began to flourish because of the music. Eventually the African art, religions, literature and cuisine were appreciated in the United States.

However, some of the sociologists in America believe that the Africans living in America increasingly lost their traditional and cultural touch with Africa in many ways. They have blended themselves into American culture so much that they are forming their own unique and distinctive culture. It is all a melting pot scenario where one culture is influencing the other and they are all becoming one and same.

Though traditional Euro American culture remains to be an exclusive part of America the current generation is more adapted to the African American culture through clothing and music.
