Definition Of American Culture
The American culture can be defined as a diverse and multi cultural set up at best. The American culture is still evolving and there are several influences due to the immigration into the country. The American culture was tremendously influenced by the British culture in the beginning. However, today we see traces of other countries and also major influences of Africa and Mexico.
There is a strong influence of Mexican culture in the Western and Southern parts of America. The British culture is still very strong in the Northeast and the East coast. So, in the United States, it is normal to find a varied set of cultural influences.
English is one of the main languages spoken in the entire country. However, today because of the increasing Spanish population from Mexico, even Spanish is being given importance as a second language. The education systems are also strongly recommending Spanish to children as a second language. It is also normal to see everyone celebrating Spanish and African festivals.
The other main sect of the United States is the Jewish population, who has had their own cultural influence on the community. The main influences seen on the American culture are of Ireland, Poland, Germany, and Italy.
Current trend observed in the society is that of African American culture, which takes over all other influences. However, in case of traditions, one can still notice the deeply imbibed British cultural effects running in the veins of the society. American culture is, therefore, very complicated to understand because of these various influences, and also it would be difficult to give a simple definition of American culture.
