The American dream is perhaps one of the most popular phrases to be used, and several people refer to it in various political and regular conversations. So, what exactly is the American dream? We hear several people referring to it and chasing the popular and elusive American dream.
The American dream evolved as a national ethos of the country in which the people took an oath that they will have the most ideal democracy that promised one hundred percent prosperity for everyone who worked in the country. The American dream is for everyone, and it does not segregate anyone by religion, color, race or sex. It is accessible to everyone, and also believes that it is everyone's right to be rich and prosperous.
The American dream is mentioned right in the second sentence of the “Declaration of Independence”.
American dream still playas a very important role in American politics. Every presidential candidate mentions it, and says that the country is still working to fulfill it. Right now for President Barack Obama, the American dream is to provide healthcare accessibility to everyone.
Politically, the American dream is defined as the life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The American dream is appreciated by several Americans, but some critics say that the expectations are ridiculous. They argue that even in modern America there is a clear divide in the society based upon race and color. The poor people are clearly demarcated from the richer community. They say that as long as such dissimilarities exist, the American dream can never be achieved.
