Business Cards In Japanese Culture
Japan is a huge country with a population of more than 125 million. Japan has very little land area, so people live in very small apartments in high rise buildings. This is seen more in Tokyo, where the houses can be extremely small. That is why people do not have big families here.
Almost everyone in Japan speaks in Japanese. This is the common language that joins people; and also the literacy rate in the country is very high. Several people seek high school education. Japan is a democratic government, and is ruled by the parliament. The prime minister is the main governing officer. The monarchy in Japan is a constitutional monarchy.
The Japanese culture dictates people to be introverts. They are not very receptive or loud in their behavior and often behave in a reserved manner with strangers.
In Japan people consider loyalty as the prime quality in business and relationships. They are also very direct people and do not think twice in asking personal questions. Japanese use small business cards called Meishi for their introduction. While presenting or receiving this business card one should use both the hands in respect. Also the business card is printed in English on one side and in Japanese on the other side. Also while presenting the business card one should take care to present with the Japanese side of the card up. There are several etiquettes to be maintained with respect to the business cards. They should be handled with care and one should keep them carefully in a folder or some place. They cannot put it in their pocket or a wallet.
