Japanese Culture And History

Japan is an ancient country, and people who live here are the descendants of Asians like Chinese, Koreans and Siberians. Most probably people from these countries came into Japan and settled down here. So there is a very long and complicated cultural history in Japan that is being passed down through several ages. The culture that is present today in Japanese society has several age old customs present in them.

Japan was founded somewhere in the seventh century BC. One of the earliest emperors to rule the country was Emperor Jimmu. During the 5th century and the 6th century, the Japanese developed a writing system that was based on the Chinese script. So, there was a lot of influence from China on Japan, including the monarchial government. However, eventually Korean culture took over and at this time the emperor was just a namesake and most of the power vested in the hands of the military.

After the 15th century, Japan saw several immigrants in the form of Portuguese, people from the Netherlands, England and Spain. Even the Christian missionaries arrived here. So, the sense of a unanimous religion became somewhat diluted and people of Japan took over various kinds of religion.

Eventually by the 18th century, the West managed to suppress all kinds of nations and they influenced Japan in a big way. The government, religion and even the family life was adapted from the West to a large extent. Even though a Japanese's day to day life was very traditional, their over all perspective of business and progress was based on the West.
