The Middle East has always been prone to several kinds of conflicts, including cultural ones. Islam is the main religion of the region, and within this religious aspect, there have been several conflicts governing the state of affairs in the country.
However, the Middle East is very important from the world's perspective because of the number of the oil reserves it holds. Several superpowers of the world depend on this place for their oil supply. Some of them have even tried to solve social problems for the Middle East to get easy access to the oil wells.
One of the biggest problems to afflict the region is Israel and Palestine conflict which is still going on. This conflict has hampered the development of the region for a very long time.
Culturally, the Middle East is very backward. It is perhaps their own culture that handicaps them in such a way. In the Middle East, women lead a very sheltered and restricted life actually. They are not allowed to have a social life. Some of the religious practices that women have to follow can come across as archaic and draconian. Marriage and child birth practices are also very dangerous and demeaning for women. There is no sense of civilized law in the Middle East as the countries follow the Shariat law. And, people suffer through harsh forms of punishments in the society. Acts like flogging and stripping the people naked for minor offences is not ruled out in the Middle East. These kinds of cultural practices cannot be changed unless the society itself takes an action to change itself for their betterment.
