Middle East Business Culture

If you are going to do business in a foreign country, then it is extremely important that you learn about the cultural differences between your own country and the destination country. The Middle East is known for its traditional and conservative values. It is an extremely orthodox society, and also if someone does not comply with the government or the traditions, then the laws can be very harsh.

However, the Middle East is an excellent place for conducting business, and it is attracting a lot of investors from all over the world today.

The people from Middle East are strongly governed by their religion, which is Islam, and its traditions. For Muslims, business is the way of life and it is not very different from their day to day life. That is they conduct their business in the way they conduct their life. They have high values in their lives, and they extend the same in their business too.

Muslims always greet people whether it is their business partner or their neighbor. When they greet, they expect a greeting in return. They pray five times a day, and they observe cleanliness all the five times. Islam prohibits them from lying and misleading people, so they are not going to do that in their business practices also. It is highly impossible to find a person who will agree to treason or cheating. Never make any false promises as a part of your business. Once you give a commitment, you have to live up to it no matter what you do.

Also, most business meetings are conducted in casual setting over a cup of Arabic tea and smoking a hookah. Also, the Arab partner will have to initiate the discussion. So, do not head straight for business talk. In addition, you will never be invited to your business partner's residence for a meal, and most Middle Eastern men do not drink alcohol. These are some things you should be careful about when conducting business in the Middle East.
